General Terminology

Here is some helpful terminology to reference when using our service. If you have a question about anything we haven’t covered here, feel free to email us at info@cleanmedia.net.

Impression
-Every time an ad is seen on a website.

Programmatic Bidding
-An algorithm that automatically selects the best ad to display based on the bid that best benefits the advertiser and publisher.

Conversion
-An action that is counted when someone interacts with an ad (ex. clicks and ad or views a video) and then takes action (fills out a contact card, makes a purchase, etc.)

Campaign
-The designated time period in which ads may run.

Ad Set
-A group of ads or promotions that run under a campaign.

Ad
-The creative that is uploaded under an Ad Set that may appear on publisher sites.

CPM Campaign
-Stands for “cost per thousand impressions.” With this type of campaign, an advertiser sets the amount they are willing to pay when their ad earns 1000 impressions. For example, if an advertiser’s CPM bid is $2, they will be charged $2 every time the ad is seen 1000 times.

CPC Campaign
-Stands for “Cost per click.” With this type of campaign, advertisers pay every time their ad is clicked.

Default Ad Bid
-The maximum amount an advertiser is willing to pay per 1000 ad impressions (CPM) or per click (CPC).

Daily Budget
-The amount an advertiser is comfortable spending per day for a given Ad Set. Can be changed at any time. Depending on bids and available traffic, an advertiser’s full budget may not be spent.
